Why we love: Bucktown #1

Stats: 3 bed, 2 bath duplex down

David and Liz moved to Bucktown five years ago to get away from the crowds in Old Town. Now, they try to recruit all their friends to their beloved neighborhood.

How long have you lived in your home?
Two years.

Why did you originally move here?
We've lived in Bucktown since 2010, and really immediately fell in love with the neighborhood. It's funny, before we moved to Bucktown, we were in Old Town and went on a date to Coast Sushi and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere!

How long do you plan to live here?
Really as long as we can make it work, probably 5-6 more years.

What is your favorite part of your home?
David: The windows--I love how bright the space is.
Liz: The kitchen. We replaced the counter tops, range and backsplash and I love how open it feels.

What is your least favorite part of your home?
David: The bathrooms, though we're planning on redoing them.
Liz: The lower level gets very cold in the winter.

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
We love our neighborhood! Holstein Park is great because it has a public pool, playground and softball/soccer field. The downtown is also great, but it's nice that there is plenty of residential areas as well. And, we're walking distance to Revolution Brewing!

What are you favorite local stores?
Restaurants:

Home goods:

How do you get to work?
Liz: I drive to the Merchandise Mart in about 15 minutes.
David: I drive to the suburbs and it's one hour each way.

Where do you grocery shop?
Fresh Market Place and Olivia's Market for littler shops and the Mariano's on Webster for bigger trips.

How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
Quite a bit, for dog walks!

Where do you plan to move next?
Definitely TBD.

Are you friends with your neighbors?
Actually yes! We met friends two doors down on a dog walk.

Does your neighborhood feel safe?
It feels very safe, but it still the city. You have to be aware of your surroundings.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Transitional. From smaller family homes to multi-million dollar new construction. Also artsy, young, grittier than Lincoln Park, friendly, safe.

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
We wouldn't want to live north of Fullerton or closer to the highway.
