Stats: 3 bed, 2.5 bath condo (duplex down)
If you're somewhere cool around the city, chances are you'll see either Sam Saifer Berngard or Jason Berngard. And it may be unclear which happened first: the cool event and Sam and Jason dropping by, or the event becoming cool because those two just popped in. Not kidding.
Sam, the co-owner of Boldface Communications, spends her days working on campaigns and events for lifestyle and hospitality brands like Le Colonial, Glossed and Found, and Monica + Andy. Jason is the Head of Market Sales for GILT City. Most importantly though, they also happen to be the parents of Brooklyn Russell, their nearly one-year-old son, who quite possibly may be the most adorable little tyke you've ever seen.
Their home is nothing short of spectacular, which shouldn't be a surprise. The perfect mix of boho, glam and family, their Bucktown condo is optimally positioned on a quiet street near all the action.
How long have you lived in your home?
It will be one year next month (October).
Why did you originally move here?
We've lived in the area for five years and love it here, so we knew we wanted to stick around once Brooklyn was born. We love the mix of old homes, multi-million dollar places, and everything in between. Since our home was new construction, we were nervous about how the move-in date and due date would match up. In the end, we weren't able to move in until two weeks after the baby came, but it worked out.
How long do you plan to live here?
Probably five to six years--until we outgrow the space. We actually have guests visiting all the time, so we use the guest room a lot. Once there's a second baby in the picture we will run out of space.
What is your favorite part of your home?
We live on the deck in the summer. I love that we chose a Mexican theme because it makes it feel like a vacation every time we step out there.
What is your least favorite part of your home?
I wish we were in a single family home with two more stories of space.
What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
Where to begin? We are at the 606 Trail every day. It is the best addition to the neighborhood. We also love the pool at Holstein Park, and taking family strolls through the residential blocks with an ice cream or coffee.
What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
I wish we were closer to the Lake.
What are you favorite local establishments?
Presidio: We love their brunch!
George's Hot Dogs: A fun, quick bite
Big Star: Always, for tacos
Tom's: The best for shoes and coffee!
Moon Voyage: The cutest boutique
How do you get to work?
I work from home, and Jason drives to River North, which takes about 15 minutes.
Where do you grocery shop?
Olivia's, which is a great little market, The Chop Shop for meat, and when we can, the Green City Farmer's Market.
How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
Literally multiple times per day. We are at the park all the time.
Where do you plan to move next?
We would love to find a single family home here or in Lincoln Park.
Are you friends with your neighbors?
Yes, we really like our neighbors. We have two super nice guys living above us.
Does your neighborhood feel safe?
Yes, but as with any big city, I don't think you should ever walk around alone at night.
What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Eclectic, fun, friendly, young, and where we are, almost a little suburban. We feel slightly removed from the hustle and bustle, but if you want noise all you have to do is walk down Damen or Milwaukee!
Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
We really love our street because it's so quiet. Honore is another great street in the neighborhood--there area always kids playing in the street.
What do you think of when you think of your home?
Our home is also home for the many friends we are constantly hosting. I feel like we've created a fun environment for ourselves and others.
