Why we love: Gold Coast

Stats: Jumbo one bed condo rental

Kelly really did her homework before settling on Gold Coast as her home base. She visited friends all over the city, but when she finally made her way to Gold Coast, that was it. She's lived in the area for seven years, and still finds new dream homes while walking through the neighborhood.

Her home is a mix of relaxation and luxury with Kelly's skillful mix of gray, white and silver tones. And the views! I dare you to not pick up an interior design trick or two from this one.

How long have you lived in your home?
I've lived in the building for seven years--this is actually my third unit in the building! I've lived in this unit for one year.

Why did you originally move here?
I swam in college, so I had a bunch of friends that were a year or two older living ion different neighborhoods throughout the city. Visiting them was a great way to stake out my favorite areas. When I visited my friend Nicole who lived down the street from where I live now, I loved the neighborhood feel while still living on 5-10 minutes to anywhere downtown.

How long do you plan to live here?
I honestly don't know. If it were up to me, a long time! I do know that we will end up in the suburbs at some point.

What is your favorite part of your home?
I love how the family room and kitchen are so open. It's great for hosting friends, especially because I've invested in a lot of seating.

What is your least favorite part of your home?
The bathroom! It's super small and the pedestal sink leaves no room for storage. I also really wish I had an in-unit washer/dryer.

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
It's so quaint here. All of the homes along Astor and State are gorgeous, and I especially love the emphasis owners put on their front gate and landscaping. It's so fun to walk around the neighborhood.

What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
Some people may not have heard about this, but we actually have a lot of sink holes around here, especially on State Street. They will be filled in with gravel and cement and a month later they're back again.

What are you favorite local establishments?
3rd Coast Cafe: An amazing hidden gem with all-day breakfast!
 Potash Market: Cute little grocery
Scoop: I love their clothes selection
Pump Room: Great cocktails
Mario's Table: Their salted caramel gelato is to die for!
Old Town Nails: They do a great job

How do you get to work?
I drive to Glenview, which takes 40 minutes without and two hours with traffic.

Where do you grocery shop?
I really buy nearly everything I need at Potash.

Where do you plan to move next?
Out to the suburbs!

Are you friends with your neighbors?
Yes, everyone is incredibly friendly. I always said I'd have everyone over for cocktails...

Does your neighborhood feel safe?
Yes, very safe.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Classic, elegant, old school Chicago.

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
Not really, it's all great. Gold Coast as a whole has a very good reputation--for good reason!

Editor's note: Thinking of buying or selling in the Gold Coast? I'd love to help!
