Stats: 2 bed, 1 bath
First-time home buyer Carli Papp loves Logan Square for its green areas and mix of residential and commercial areas. Her home is itself an incredible mix--of old and new pieces perfectly combined to create a unique, eclectic and urban sort of beauty. That gorgeous dining room table? Her grandma's old sewing table--who would have thought?
How long have you lived in your home?
It will be two years this summer.
Why did you originally move here?
I rented in Logan Square for three years before I bought.
How long do you plan to live here?
I don't know! A few more years.
What is your favorite part of your home?
The dining room. It's big, open and the most styled/decorated room in the house. I love the mix of old and new pieces.
What is your least favorite part of your home?
The bathroom. I just need to make a decision about how to update it.
What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
I like that it feels like a neighborhood. We have a great mix of residential and commercial areas with cute shops. Also, the 606 Trail! It's modeled after the High Line in New York. and I'm so lucky that one of the entrances will be at the end of my block. I also love running through Humboldt Park--I feel like it's the best kept secret in Chicago.
What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
I don't like being so far from the El.
What are you favorite local stores?
Parsons has an amazing outdoor area, Scofflaw is a great gin-focused bar/restaurant, Fleur is a gorgeous florist and Gather has a great home/lifestyle selection.
How do you get to work?
I drive to Elk Grove Village.
How long is your commute?
I leave at 8am and return at 4pm and it takes about an hour each way.
Where do you grocery shop?
The lack of grocery stores is definitely a problem for Logan Square. There are always rumors of a Trader Joe's opening in the neighborhood, but I think people are just wishful. I shop at the Strack and Van Til off Elston. The closest Mariano's or Trader Joe's is a ten minute drive.
How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
I take my dog out twice a day so I'm walking around a lot. I love going to Palmer Park and it's so nice that we have boulevards all over the neighborhood.
Where do you plan to move next?
I've always loved Evanston and the idea of living on the Lake.
Are you friends with your neighbors?
Not really. We're friendly, but not friends.
Does your neighborhood feel safe?
What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Young, changing, gentrifying. I'm glad our Alderman wants to maintain some of the original character of the area.
Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
The east and north ends are the best.
