Stats: 2 bed, 2 bath apartment
Shiva and Shannon's cool points are totally out the window--that's really the only way to say it, sorry (not sorry). Upon walking into their apartment, I was suddenly and very urgently struck with the need to take photos of all of their art, light fixtures, and plants. Yes, even their plant choices are on point.
The roommate's creative genius is no accident since they spend their free time at Logan Square's best galleries, bars and shops. And on top of that, Shiva is a creative maker herself, to the tune of designing and producing her own wax cast jewelry. Check out her Insta feed here for all the pretty. Looking to pretend you're equally as cool? Good thing they were kind enough to share some of their favorite spots.
How long have you lived in your home?
We moved in July 2015.
Why did you originally move here?
We wanted a good bang for our buck and to live somewhere close to the Blue Line and were looking between Wicker Park, West Town and Logan Square. When we saw this apartment we knew it was it!
How long do you plan to live here?
Probably two years--it's too perfect to leave any sooner.
What is your favorite part of your home?
Shannon: I love the natural light and open floor plan.
Shiva: I love the entertaining space, which can easily fit about 20 people.
What is your least favorite part of your home?
Shannon: The traffic noise can get loud since we're on a busy street.
Shiva: I wish the front entrance was more welcoming and better-kept.
What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
Shannon: I love how local everything feels--we have a lot of small businesses around us, all within walking distance.
Shiva: I love the diversity, and that it's still affordable for younger people. It's also a great place for creative-types since we have tons of live shows, music and galleries.
What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
We don't have a grocery store close by.
What are you favorite local stores?
Billy Sunday: Good date spot with fancy cocktails
Galerie F: Beautiful prints and they also host monthly exhibitions
Fleur: Great for little gifts and fresh flowers
The Heavy Feather and Whirlaway Lounge: Fun for drinks
East Room: Dancing!
Scofflaw: Our favorite Bloody Mary
Sink | Swim: Love their dollar oysters!
How do you get to work?
We both take the Blue Line downtown, which takes about 20 minutes.
Where do you grocery shop?
We use Instacart and stop by the Sunday farmer's market in the summer. I (Shannon) sometimes go to the Dill Pickle Food Co-op.
Where do you plan to move next?
We'll both be leaving Chicago for our next move!
Are you friends with your neighbors?
Ha, no! We NEVER seen them.
Does your neighborhood feel safe?
For the most part, yes. We never see anything weird, probably because we live on a busy street so there are always people around.
What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Calm, chill, young, down-to-earth, always something going on.
Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
Before people tried to avoid Milwaukee Ave, but it's recently totally blown up with new bars and breweries. We generally wouldn't want to live too far from the Blue Line.
