Why we love: Old Town

Stats: 2 bed, 2 bath elevator condo + parking

Hailing from Maine and the UK respectively, Kit and her husband are the best kind of Chicago transplants. You know, the kind that make your chest puff with pride that people coming from such cool places think our city is worth sticking around?

Kit does a whole lot more than just stick around too. As the co-founder of the Windy City Blogger Collective, it's literally Kit's job to know what's up all over the city. And, just to gild the lily a little bit more, Kit also happens to be the last word on all things gourmet grilled cheese having authored the aptly named, Gourmet Grilled Cheese Cookbook.

How long have you lived in your home?
One and a half years.

Why did you originally move here?
We moved here from River North, which we really didn't love. It was a weird no man's land where we lived, so we couldn't walk anywhere including the train or grocery store. Old Town felt like a good middle ground since it feels neighborhoody, but is still close to downtown.

How long do you plan to live here?
Probably a little over two years more. Eventually we will want a 3-4 bedroom home, so this place is like a long-term band aid.

What is your favorite part of your home?
I love the office and the roof in the summer. I've never had a dedicated workspace before, and it's been a game changer for blogging.

What is your least favorite part of your home?
I wish it were a three bed so we could stay longer!

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
We love the walkability to a good number of bars, restaurants and things to do.

What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
There are currently four-five empty retail spaces between Wells and North Ave, which makes me so mad every time I walk by since we need a few really good restaurants in the area.

What are you favorite local establishments?
Buzz Bait Taqueria: Great tacos
Woody's Flat: Our local hang out bar
La Fournette Bakery & Cafe: For coffee and pastries
Greer: I love their stationary
Hotel Lincoln: The roof is so gorgeous on a summer night

How do you get to work?
I work from home and my husband takes the train downtown, which is about a 20 minute commute.

Where do you grocery shop?
I LOVE Divvy, so I'll ride to the ALDI on Clybourn.

How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
I'll ride a Divvy anytime the weather is above 18 degrees, so I am constantly riding somewhere!

Where do you plan to move next?
We love Old Town and don't plan to leave!

Are you friends with your neighbors?
Yes! Our building has ten units and in the summer we will all hang out on the roof. We live with a really nice group of people.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Low key, quieter than River North. There are a lot of people like us here: professionals in their 30s, with or without kids.

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
Old Town has a few different areas: Wells St can get fratty, Old Town Triangle is my favorite place to walk around, and then the beach/park area with Hotel Lincoln and the farmer's market.
