Why we love: The Gold Coast

Stats: 2 bed, 2 bath high rise condo

Prepare to fall in love with downtown Chicago all over again. If you're anything like me, sometimes you forget how beautiful our gorgeous city is amidst the grayness, dirty snow and bitter cold. But then one day it hits you like a ton of bricks when the sun peaks out and the Lake is shimmering against a back drop of the best skyline in the world. Samantha's apartment is an ode to those singular days: views that make you feel like you're in the midst of it all, and so high up!

A teacher by day, Samantha is also the voice behind the popular and aptly named blog, Gold Coast Girl, so she has plenty to share on all things Chicago, fashion and lifestyle. I can't decide if I'm more jealous of her views or her closet...

How long have you lived in your home?
Since November 2014, though I've lived in the neighborhood my whole life. While I love all of the Gold Coast, I grew up on Astor Street, which definitely feels more neighborhoody than some of the other parts.

Why did you originally move here?
Having grown up here, all of my family still lives here and it feels very comfortable.

How long do you plan to live here?
One-two more years, and then we will probably stay in the area, but move somewhere a bit bigger.

What is your favorite part of your home?
I love the big windows in the living room since they let in so much natural light. We tend to spend most of our time there hanging out.

What is your least favorite part of your home?
The lack of storage! We need more storage!

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
I love the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast. I have everything I need within walking distance including all that downtown offers.

What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
Honestly there isn't much I dislike about the area, though it does get too crowded with tourists around the holidays.

What are you favorite local establishments:
Luxe Bar: Fun for cocktails
Original Pancake House: Because they do it best!
Quartino's: A great neighborhood standby for Italian
Oak Tree: So fun for breakfast
RL: I love to sit outside and indulge in a fancy lunch!

How do you get to work?
I drive about 30 minutes northwest of the city.

Where do you grocery shop?
I walk to the local Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
I prefer walking to driving, so I'm walking somewhere every day.

Are you friends with your neighbors?
We're more friendly, than friends. My parents, sister and grandma all live within walking distance, so we end up spending a lot of time with them.

Does your neighborhood feel safe?
Yes, it feels very safe since there are always tons of people walking around.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Vibrant and always something going on!

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
I wouldn't want to live right on Michigan Avenue since it's usually so populated with tourists.
