Why we love: West Loop #1

Stats: 2 bed, 2 bath timber loft

How long have you lived in your home?
We bought it two years ago, but didn't move in for six months due to renovations.

Why did you originally move here?
We actually found our place through a friend of a friend. It had been sitting on the market for three years as a foreclosure. It was complicated because the property was zoned for residence, but was previously used as an office. So, in order to prove we were going to live here (instead of work), we had to host a wine and cheese party and invite a lawyer!

Where did you live before?
We lived in Wicker Park, and loved the eclectic nature of the area. We moved because we'd rather go to a restaurant and hang out, than go to a club. The West Loop feels like a more grown up version of Wicker Park.

How long do you plan to live here?
Another year and a half or so.

What is your favorite part of your home?
Kaitlyn: the master bedroom
Adrian: the second bedroom/music room

What is your least favorite part of your home?
We don't have a separate laundry room.

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
All of the restaurants, within walking distance.

What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
There's an empty lot across the street from us (though construction on a new building will start soon!), and rowdy people congregate there sometimes.

What are you favorite local stores?
Grange Hall Burger Bar - the best burgers ever!
Butterfly Sushi
Arista Foods - such a little gem, great grocery store
Skinner Park - great dog park
Cone Gourmet Ice Cream
Parlor Pizza - not crazy expensive and so good
Green Street Smoked Meats

How do you get to work?
Adrian: drives a few blocks
Kaitlyn: drives to Des Plaines

How long is your commute?
Kaitlyn: about 45 minutes to one hour

Where do you grocery shop?
Arista and Mariano's

How often do you walk around your neighborhood?
All the time for Fitz's walks.

Where do you plan to move next?
We're thinking Portland!

Are you friends with your neighbors?
Actually yes! There are only eight units in the building, so it's a fun, smaller group of people that get together each month for a dinner party.

Does your neighborhood feel safe?
Yes, mostly. Sometimes we see these freak situations happen.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Young professionals.

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
Anything around Randolph and Madison is great, but we wouldn't want to go further west than Ashland.
