Why we love: West Loop #5

Stats: 1 bed, 1 bath loft + parking

Meet Mary. The gorgeous blogger behind Sportsanista, and the owner of one of the most beautiful lofts I've seen to date. A mix of industrial and romantic, modern and even a little bling, this condo will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about interior design and just sigh.

How long have you lived in your home?
I bought the condo in 2008, knowing very little about the area. At the time it felt like block after block of dirty warehouses--nothing like it is today!

Why did you originally move here?
I was really going off of faith that my parents knew what they were talking about when they said the West Loop would be the next hot neighborhood. Plus, I was working at Soldier Field at the time, so the commute wasn't too bad. I looked for a lonnnnnng time--this was nearly the 60th place I saw!

How long do you plan to live here?
We will be here are as long as we can live comfortably. Eventually I think we will move to a two bedroom, still in the West Loop.

What is your favorite part of your home?
I love the open layout and also our map wall. We love traveling, and pick up a map wherever we go as a keepsake of the trip.

What is your least favorite part of your home?
While I love the way lofts look, the lack of insulation makes it so that we can hear our neighbors and water in the pipes.

What is your favorite part of your neighborhood?
The convenience is amazing. I can get all my errands done in one hour, and then look forward to dinner at a great restaurant within walking distance.

What is your least favorite part of your neighborhood?
The traffic and parking are starting to become an issue with the growing community, but I suppose that is trade-off with a popular neighborhood.

What are you favorite local establishments?
Soho House: The outdoor pool is such a treat
Au Cheval: The burger is just beyond. I probably eat here more than any other restaurant.
Ciao! Cafe & Wine Lounge: A great place to have some wine and enjoy live music - you can take the wine home if you don't finish it!
Monte Verde: Excellent food, and a great ambiance--you can watch nonnas make fresh pasta!
theHAN: The owners of this boutique are from South Korea, and their collection is super unique
The Fig Tree: Great for hostess gifts and candles

How do you get to work?
One of three ways: either the Madison bus, Green Line or an Uber to the Aon Center, which is about ten minutes away.

Where do you grocery shop?
Either the Whole Foods on Halsted or I use Instacart

Are you friends with your neighbors?
Not really. The building has turned into a lot of renters, which the owners are working to correct.

Does your neighborhood feel safe?
Yes, definitely now.

What is the general vibe of your neighborhood?
Family-friendly and hipster.

Are some areas of your neighborhood more favorable than others?
Restaurant Row and Fulton Market continue to grow on a daily basis. I've loved watching the evolution of this neighborhood and can't wait to see what its like!
